Lal Kitab Calculator

Lahiri ayanamsa · Whole Sign houses · Node type: Mean node

Ascendant basis: our Lagna follows a slightly different convention from Drik's, agreeing within about 0.3 degrees. A birth very close to a sign boundary can show a different rising sign. Planets and Panchang elements agree to under one arc-minute.

Dasha timing: our Vimshottari Dasha period boundaries agree with Drik's within a few days, not to the exact day. This comes from two documented sources: a tiny difference in the birth Moon's measured position that compounds across the full 120 year cycle, and a different classical year length the two engines use to lengthen each period (we use 365.25 days, Drik uses the sidereal year of about 365.256 days).

Cross-check these values against Drik Panchang for the same date, time, and place.

About this calculator

Lal Kitab is a distinct astrological framework, kept separate from mainstream Vedic astrology, with its own house, planet, and traditional-debt concepts. This calculator computes a Lal Kitab reading of your chart's houses, planets, and any traditional debts it shows.

The method

Your birth details are sent to VedicShala's astrology calculation provider, which computes your Lal Kitab houses, planets, and any traditional debts (called "rinn") using this framework's own rules, distinct from the sign-and-house math the rest of this site's astrology calculators use. For each house, the calculator reports its traditional owner and placement, including whether Lal Kitab traditionally treats that house as "sleeping" (soya), a framework-specific state. For each planet, it reports the traditional sign, position, and nature Lal Kitab assigns. If your chart shows any traditional debts, the calculator names them as informational reference points, not as recommendations, and VedicShala does not sell remedies, gemstones, or pujas.

Why this is kept separate from your other readings

Lal Kitab uses its own vocabulary and its own rules for houses and planets, genuinely different from mainstream Vedic astrology's system. This calculator keeps Lal Kitab's own terms, such as "pakka ghar" and "soya", rather than translating them into mainstream Vedic terminology, so the reading stays true to the framework it comes from rather than blending two distinct traditions together.

Using the calculator on this page

Enter your date, time, and place of birth into the form above. Your birth details are sent to our astrology calculation provider so it can compute your result; the provider discards those details afterward and we do not store them unless you choose to save the result to a free VedicShala account.

Honest limits

A traditional debt named in this reading is a chart factor within Lal Kitab's own framework, not a financial or moral judgement, and this calculator names it only as informational reference material. Lal Kitab is one distinct tradition among several ways a chart can be read, and this result is not a recommendation to take any particular action.
