Ascendant basis: our Lagna follows a slightly different convention from Drik's, agreeing within about 0.3 degrees. A birth very close to a sign boundary can show a different rising sign. Planets and Panchang elements agree to under one arc-minute.
Dasha timing: our Vimshottari Dasha period boundaries agree with Drik's within a few days, not to the exact day. This comes from two documented sources: a tiny difference in the birth Moon's measured position that compounds across the full 120 year cycle, and a different classical year length the two engines use to lengthen each period (we use 365.25 days, Drik uses the sidereal year of about 365.256 days).
Cross-check these values against Drik Panchang for the same date, time, and place.
Rahu and Ketu are two points Vedic astrology treats as shadow planets, the two places where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path. They always sit exactly opposite each other in the chart. This calculator finds their signs and the houses they occupy, counted from your Moon sign.
This calculator sends your birth date, time, and place to VedicShala's astrology calculation provider, which returns Rahu's and Ketu's exact sidereal longitudes at your birth moment, alongside the Moon's longitude. Each longitude is matched against the twelve 30-degree zodiac segments to find Rahu's sign and Ketu's sign, which are always exactly opposite one another by definition. The calculator then counts the house position of each, using your Moon sign as the 1st house reference point, the same "Nth house from your Moon sign" convention this site's daily Gochar transit note uses.
Rahu and Ketu's longitudes move slowly and steadily, roughly one degree every eighteen months, and your Moon sign itself barely shifts across a single day. Because of this, this result does not depend on knowing your exact birth time the way a Nakshatra or Baby Name result does, so this calculator never flags a result as computed from a default time.
If your Moon sign is Leo and Rahu's sidereal longitude places it in Pisces at your birth moment, Pisces is the 8th sign counting from Leo, so Rahu sits in your 8th house from the Moon. Ketu, always exactly opposite Rahu, would then sit in Virgo, your 2nd house from the Moon.
Enter your date, time, and place of birth into the form above. Your birth details are sent to our astrology calculation provider so it can compute Rahu's and Ketu's exact positions for that moment; the provider discards those details afterward and we do not store them unless you choose to save the result to a free VedicShala account.
Vedic astrology traditionally reads Rahu and Ketu's house placement as marking a theme to grow toward and a theme to release, read alongside the rest of your chart rather than in isolation. This is one traditional lens among several ways a chart can be read, not a standalone explanation of a life.
Rahu and Ketu's house placement is one factor in a full chart reading, and their traditional meanings vary somewhat between different schools of Vedic astrology. Treat this result as a starting point for understanding your own chart, not a complete or final reading on its own.
